WINNING IMPLEMENTATIONS

Capturing Kids' Hearts Creating High Performance Process Diagram

PHASE 1: CREATING CONNECTIONS & TRANSFORMING CULTURE

Educators learn the process of connecting with kids by consistently treating each one as valuable. If a child has an appropriate relationship with a mature, responsible adult at home or at school, it is protective against virtually every adolescent risk factor including school absenteeism, intentional personal injury, violence, and academic performance (Resnick, et al, 1997, JAMA; CDC, Resnick replicated study, 2009). The sad truth is each child does not have someone at home or school with whom he or she can connect. The good news is every school educator can learn the process that creates connectedness in the classroom, and the journey begins with Capturing Kids’ Hearts. We advise school leaders to:

1. Train all campus-level staff in Capturing Kids’ Hearts 1 (2-day event).
2. Train a subset of campus influencers to be Process Champions (mentors and coaches) to increase implementation fidelity (2-day event).
3. Provide TrAction Pacs, follow-up support via coaching visits from a Flippen Group campus strategist to observe, model, encourage, and provide feedback for improvement. A strategist is consistently available to campus administration via text or phone call!

PHASE 2: DEVELOPING MULTIPLIERS

Taking implementation to the next level, teachers attend Capturing Kids’ Hearts 2, where the brain research supporting Capturing Kids’ Hearts 1 processes is discussed, and participants receive Teacher Insights, a 360-degree Flippen Profile that reveals individual teacher behaviors that limit success in the classroom. In the training, each teacher will develop their very own action plans to overcome their personal constraints and reach new levels of connectedness and classroom performance.

Phase 2 typically includes implementing our adolescent curriculum in secondary schools, LeadWorthy The Course (formerly Teen Leadership), an explicit socio-emotional learning experience that teaches students personal responsibility, consequential thinking, social- and self-awareness, leadership skills, decision-making, and pro-social skills. Campus visits and supporting events reinforce implementation.

PHASE 3: REAPING HIGH PERFORMANCE

Transformation is marked by increased academic performance, much lower discipline issues, higher attendance, higher educator satisfaction, and other measurable results. To sustain the momentum, campuses ensure that all new hires attend Capturing Kids’ Hearts 1 and 2, new campus leadership attends Leadership Blueprint, and campus-wide reinforcing events take place regularly.
