Leadership Profile
David Johnson
David Johnson
Leadership Development Advisor
David Johnson grew up in the northwest Florida panhandle enjoying both its pine and oak forests and sugar-white beaches. He graduated with honors from the University of West Florida with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education. A few years later he earned a master’s degree in the same field from the same university.
David retired from the Santa Rosa School District after serving the same district for thirty-seven years. During the first eighteen years he was an elementary classroom teacher. Later he transitioned into school administration as an assistant principal, then school principal, and eventually serving as the district’s Director of Continuous Improvement.
David’s school-level administration experience has all been with high-poverty schools. With each assignment he was able to work with his staff to build cultures of high expectations and safe, inviting atmospheres. Every school was consistently cited for high achievement and served as role models for schools across the state of Florida. After attending a Capturing Kids’ Heart training David realized the process encapsulated everything he believed about building and maintaining strong schools.
David is an avid long distance runner having completed numerous marathons, an ultra marathon, and a few triathlons. He also loves working in his yard and backpacking, but his real passion is Harriet, his wife of thirty plus years, and their three wonderful adult children. (Our empty nest is AWESOME!)
