Leadership Development Strategist

Whether on the basketball court or in his everyday life… Jason McCowan likes to EXCEL! Though born in Pennsylvania, he received his bachelor’s degree in education from East Tennessee State University in 2000.

Jason started his education career at an alternative school in Evensville, TN. He then taught environmental science and physical education various high schools in Tennessee.  During this time, he was also an assistant and head boys’ basketball coach at several schools. Jason is most proud of being named district coach of the year in 2010 and 2017.

Jason has been the Teen Leadership teacher at Cleveland High School since 2012.  These students learn the importance of serving and empowering other students.  He has also helped implement a peer mentoring program which allows these leadership students the opportunity to help the new students become a part of the school culture.  Jason has been able to implement the Capturing Kids’ Hearts process in all components of his life in the classroom, on the court, in the community, and at home. He joined the Flippen Group in 2017 as a summer Capturing Kids’ Hearts trainer bringing the processes to schools across the USA.

Jason lives in Cleveland, TN with his wife Colleen, and two daughters, Ryan and Andi.  He enjoys playing golf, various other sports, and working outdoors.  He credits his success in the classroom and on the basketball floor to developing relationships with his students and players.  Coach McCowan helps each one of them focus on creating daily habits which are on par with the dreams they have for tomorrow.
