Leadership Profile

Stephanie Heintz Wood

Stephanie Heintz Wood

Stephanie Heintz Wood grew up always knowing she wanted to be an educator. She has been a fulltime member of North Iredell High School’s English department and leadership team since 1992. Her focus is on a Holocaust studies course. In 2003, Stephanie was named a museum teacher fellow for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC, and she uses her position to educate those in her school and community about this watershed event in history, as well as to make relevant connections to current events in our world today. She teaches all levels from inclusion to advanced placement in the “Success Academy.” Aptly named, because it continues to allow students the chance to earn a high school diploma.

Stephanie credits the relationships she has with her students for numerous teaching awards. This includes being named Teacher of the Year for her school district, resulting in her becoming a finalist for the North Carolina state Teacher of the Year award. After attending Capturing Kids’ Hearts, she found the process brought even more meaning to student relationships and learning in her classroom. She believes life-long learning is simply the only way to stay relevant in education—and be effective with the youth she serves.

Stephanie is married to Master Sergeant (Ret.) Richard Wood of the US Army. They enjoy any time they have together (when she is not grading papers). He is her biggest fan. Together, they have five wonderful children—all grown up and having grandbabies for them to enjoy.
